Harry Maguire says Man United have “moved on” after Lisandro Martínez’s outburst

Harry Maguire has insisted the Manchester United dressing room has moved on from Lisandro Martínez’s outburst.

Martínez returned to the side as United were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday, although he came off at half-time.

The Argentina defender had earlier aimed a verbal tirade at director of football Jason Wilcox after United lost to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, questioning the ambition of the club’s summer transfer business. He later apologised.

Maguire: “We have moved on”

“Obviously there has been a lot of noise around the club [in the past week], as there is every week, but more so [in the past week],” Maguire told Sky Sports after the Leeds draw, in response to a question about Martínez.

“Lisandro has come out and apologised. We have moved on from it.

“He played and I thought he was brilliant in the first half, credit to him. Fingers crossed that he hasn’t picked up a serious injury and we can have him back.”

Manager Michael Carrick previously said Martínez’s rant was “really not a drama for us as a group.”

Dressing room tested

Asked whether his teammate’s criticism had challenged the spirit in the dressing room, Maguire said: “When you played for this club it is always tested, especially when you’re not winning football matches.

“We haven’t played anywhere near well enough to win as many football matches as we did last season.

“We get tested every week, and the boys have got to get used to that. They’ve got to find something within themselves to help the group.

“We’ll stick together, we’ll go again. We have got another big game on Wednesday and we look forward to it.”

United have collected only seven points from their first seven Premier League games of the season, forcing Carrick to concede that the situation “doesn’t look great.”
