Manchester United have been dealt a fresh injury concern ahead of their Champions League clash with Como, with ten senior players potentially missing the trip to Italy after Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez were among several high-profile absentees from training.
United will be on the shores of Lake Como on Wednesday evening to face Cesc Fabregas’ side, aiming to bounce back from defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of this season’s league phase.
The game will take place at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia following approval from UEFA. It is a historic occasion, as it is the first time United have faced Como in a competitive fixture.
Selection dilemma for Carrick
Michael Carrick may now face a selection dilemma. Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Martinez and Rashford were all absent from Tuesday morning’s training session at Carrington, sparking fears they will not be named in the travelling squad later.
Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven missed the 1-1 draw with Leeds at the weekend, while Martinez was replaced at half-time after picking up a thigh injury.
Rashford was an unused substitute at Elland Road, and Carrick has confirmed the England international has been carrying a knock recently.
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” the United head coach confirmed.
Long-term absentees and a suspension
As expected, long-term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte were all missing from the session, as was third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
Leny Yoro is guaranteed to sit out against Como as he serves a suspension after being sent off in the Spanish capital.
